Northern Pacific Railway

The Northern Pacific Railway was an American transcontinental railroad linking the Great Lakes region with the Pacific Northwest. Its main line reached the Puget Sound in 1883.

Jay Cooke: An American financier whose investment firm promoted and financed the Northern Pacific Railway. His firm’s 1873 failure helped trigger the railway’s first major bankruptcy.
