Northumberland
Northumberland is a county in northeast England, bordering Scotland and the North Sea. Its county town is Morpeth.
Bamburgh Castle: A medieval castle on the Northumberland coast, historically associated with the kings of Bernicia. Its coastal stronghold became one of the county’s defining historic landmarks.
Bernicia: An Anglo-Saxon kingdom in northern Britain, later united with Deira to form Northumbria. Its territory included much of what became Northumberland.
Oswald of Northumbria: A seventh-century king of Northumbria who helped establish Christianity in his kingdom. His reign linked Northumberland’s early political power with the mission at Lindisfarne.
Northumberland National Park: A protected upland landscape in Northumberland, extending from Hadrian’s Wall to the Scottish border. It preserves the county’s sparsely populated hills, archaeological sites, and dark skies.
