Monarchy of Norway : Norway’s constitutional monarchy, in which the monarch serves as ceremonial head of state. The monarch’s formal role sits alongside government responsible to the Storting.
Norwegian continental shelf : The seabed and subsoil under waters where Norway exercises sovereign rights to explore and exploit natural resources. Its offshore fields underpin Norway’s petroleum industry.
Nynorsk : One of Norway’s two official written standards, developed from Norwegian rural dialects in the nineteenth century. Its status gives regional language traditions an official place alongside Bokmål.
