NOT gate

A NOT gate is a logic gate with one input and one output that reverses the input’s logical value: 0 becomes 1, and 1 becomes 0.

Truth table: A table listing the output of a logical operation for every possible combination of inputs. The NOT gate’s entire behavior is captured by two input-output rows.
Logic gate: An electronic or abstract circuit element that performs a Boolean operation on one or more inputs. The NOT gate is the one-input member of this broader family.
Ring oscillator: An oscillator made from an odd number of inverters connected in a loop. Repeated inversion and propagation delay make the loop’s output oscillate.
Buffer gate: A logic gate that reproduces its input value at its output. A buffer preserves a signal where a NOT gate reverses it.
Boolean algebra: An algebraic system in which variables take values of true or false and operations combine or transform them. Boolean algebra expresses inversion as the complement operation, often written ¬A or A̅.
Logical negation: The operation that changes a proposition’s truth value to its opposite. A NOT gate implements logical negation for binary signals.
SRAM: A volatile memory technology that stores each bit in a transistor-based circuit while power is supplied. NOT gates are part of the cross-coupled inverter pairs that hold SRAM bits.
AND gate: A logic gate that outputs 1 only when all its inputs are 1. Unlike inversion, AND combines multiple inputs and tests whether all are true.
Transistor: A semiconductor device that controls current or voltage and can amplify signals or act as a switch. Transistors provide the switching behavior used to build electronic inverters.
Binary number: A number represented using the digits 0 and 1. Digital circuits encode the gate’s two logical values as binary states.
