Nzinga of Ndongo and Matamba

Nzinga was a 17th-century ruler of Ndongo and Matamba in present-day Angola who used diplomacy, military alliances, and warfare to resist Portuguese expansion.

Kingdom of Ndongo: A Central African kingdom in present-day Angola that faced Portuguese expansion during the 16th and 17th centuries. Nzinga first ruled this kingdom, whose contested succession shaped her path to power.
