Oat

Oat is a cereal grass, especially Avena sativa, grown for its edible grain. Its grain is used in human foods and animal feed.

Avena sativa: A domesticated oat species cultivated worldwide for grain and forage. This is the principal cultivated species meant by oat.
Rolled oats: Oat groats that are steamed and flattened into flakes. They are a widely used form of oat grain for porridge and baking.
Crop domestication: The process by which human selection transforms wild plants into cultivated crops. Oats became a crop through selection and cultivation from wild grasses.
Wheat: A group of cereal grasses cultivated for grain, especially Triticum aestivum. Wheat is a major cereal with different grain proteins and baking properties.
Oat grain: The edible fruit and seed of oat, commonly called an oat kernel. Its structure determines how oats are milled and prepared as food.
