Oda Nobunaga

Oda Nobunaga was a Japanese warlord who conquered much of central Japan and initiated the political unification later completed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. He died in 1582 during the Honnō-ji Incident.

Sengoku period: A period of civil war and political fragmentation in Japan, conventionally dated from the mid-15th to the late 16th century. Its competing warlords and unstable alliances shaped the conditions for Nobunaga’s rise.
Battle of Nagashino: A 1575 battle in which forces led by Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu defeated the Takeda army. The battle illustrates Nobunaga’s use of firearms and coordinated defensive tactics.
Toyotomi Hideyoshi: A Japanese military leader who completed much of Japan’s unification after Oda Nobunaga’s death. Hideyoshi rose through Nobunaga’s service and continued his unification campaigns.

Toyotomi unification of Japan: The process by which Toyotomi Hideyoshi brought most of Japan under his authority in the late 16th century. Hideyoshi consolidated territories Nobunaga had conquered or brought into his orbit.
