Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development is an intergovernmental organization that produces policy analysis, standards, and data to promote economic and social well-being.

OECD Council: The OECD’s decision-making body, made up of representatives from member countries and the European Union. It approves the organization’s work and adopts recommendations negotiated by members.
Programme for International Student Assessment: An OECD assessment that compares the reading, mathematics, and science skills of 15-year-old students across countries. PISA makes OECD education comparisons visible to governments and the public.
Organisation for European Economic Co-operation: The organization established in 1948 to coordinate European recovery under the Marshall Plan. It was the OECD’s direct institutional predecessor.
International Monetary Fund: An international organization that promotes monetary cooperation and provides financial assistance to countries facing balance-of-payments problems. Unlike the OECD’s policy analysis and coordination, the IMF can provide emergency financing.

World Bank: An international financial institution that provides financing and expertise for development projects and programs. Its lending role differs from the OECD’s emphasis on standards, data, and policy advice.
Common Reporting Standard: An international standard for the automatic exchange of financial account information between tax authorities. OECD-developed rules helped make cross-border tax information exchange more systematic.
