O'Higgins Region

An administrative region in central Chile, named for independence leader Bernardo O'Higgins and centered on Rancagua. It extends from the Andes to the Pacific coast.

Rancagua: A city in central Chile and the capital of the O'Higgins Region. It is the region's administrative center and largest urban hub.
Regions of Chile: The first-level administrative divisions of Chile, each governed by regional institutions. O'Higgins is one of Chile's sixteen regions.
Chilean wine: Wine produced in Chile, including internationally known red and white varieties. Colchagua and Cachapoal valleys make the region a major wine-producing area.
Bernardo O'Higgins: A Chilean independence leader who served as Supreme Director from 1817 to 1823. The region bears his name in recognition of his role in Chilean independence.
Cachapoal Province: A province in the O'Higgins Region of central Chile. It contains Rancagua and forms the region's northern province.
Regional Government of O'Higgins: The public institution responsible for regional development planning and investment in O'Higgins, Chile. It coordinates development priorities across the region's provinces.
Colchagua Valley: A wine-producing valley in Chile's O'Higgins Region, centered around Santa Cruz. Its vineyards and wineries are among the region's best-known economic and tourism assets.
Chilean War of Independence: The conflict in which Chile broke from Spanish rule between 1810 and 1826. O'Higgins became a leading military and political figure in this struggle.
Colchagua Province: A province in the O'Higgins Region of central Chile, with San Fernando as its capital. It covers the region's central area and includes much of its wine country.
Ruta 5: Chile's principal north–south highway, forming part of the Pan-American Highway. It links Rancagua and other regional settlements with Santiago and southern Chile.
