Olduvai Gorge

Olduvai Gorge is a steep-sided ravine in northern Tanzania that preserves fossil-rich sediment layers and archaeological traces of early hominins and their environments.

OH 5: A Paranthropus boisei skull discovered at Olduvai Gorge in 1959 and nicknamed the Nutcracker Man. This striking fossil brought international attention to Olduvai and reshaped ideas about human ancestry.
