Oleg the Wise

Oleg was a Varangian ruler who governed Novgorod and Kyiv in the late ninth and early tenth centuries. The Primary Chronicle credits him with establishing Kyiv as the center of Rus.

Primary Chronicle: A medieval East Slavic chronicle compiled in Kyiv in the early twelfth century. Its account supplies the principal narrative of Oleg’s rule and campaigns.
