Olympic shooting

Olympic shooting is the group of rifle, pistol, and shotgun events contested at the Summer Olympic Games. Competitors aim at paper or clay targets under event-specific rules.

10 metre air rifle: An Olympic rifle event in which competitors shoot pellets at a target 10 metres away from a standing position. It is the signature precision-rifle format, with exceptionally small scoring zones.
1896 Summer Olympics: The first modern Olympic Games, held in Athens in 1896. Shooting was among the sports contested at the inaugural modern Games.

Abhinav Bindra: An Indian rifle shooter who won the 10-metre air rifle gold medal at the 2008 Olympics. His victory was India’s first individual Olympic gold medal.
Benchrest shooting: A precision rifle discipline in which firearms are fired from supported rests at fixed targets. Its extensive firearm support differs from Olympic rifle events’ prescribed standing or positional shooting.
10 metre air pistol: An Olympic pistol event in which competitors shoot pellets at a target 10 metres away using one hand. It applies the same close-range precision format with a different firearm and stance.
Olympic programme: The collection of sports and events selected for a particular edition of the Olympic Games. Changes to this programme have repeatedly reshaped which shooting events are contested.
