Operation Blue Star

A June 1984 Indian military operation to remove Sikh militants from the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar. The assault caused extensive damage to the shrine and deepened conflict between the Indian state and Sikh communities.

Golden Temple: The central Sikh gurdwara in Amritsar, also known as Harmandir Sahib. The temple complex was the operation’s target and the site of the fighting.
Anandpur Sahib Resolution: A 1973 Sikh political document calling for greater state autonomy and addressing Sikh religious and economic concerns. Disputes over its demands formed part of Punjab’s political tensions before the operation.
