Oral and maxillofacial surgery

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a surgical specialty treating diseases, injuries, deformities, and other conditions of the mouth, jaws, face, and related structures.

Impacted wisdom tooth: A third molar that cannot fully erupt into the mouth because of its position or lack of space. Surgical removal is a common dentoalveolar procedure in this specialty.
Panoramic radiography: An imaging technique that produces a broad two-dimensional view of the teeth, jaws, and surrounding structures. It helps assess jaw anatomy and dental disease before many procedures.
Oral pathology: The study and diagnosis of diseases affecting the mouth and related structures. Pathologic diagnosis guides decisions about biopsy and surgical treatment.
