Orange River

The Orange River is a major southern African river that flows west from the Drakensberg Mountains across South Africa to the Atlantic Ocean.

Drakensberg: A mountain range in eastern South Africa and neighboring countries, forming the highest part of the Great Escarpment. The Orange River rises in the Drakensberg’s highlands.
Orange River Project: A South African water-resource scheme that uses dams and canals to store and distribute Orange River water. It redirects river water to irrigation areas and urban users.
Khoikhoi: Indigenous pastoralist peoples of southern Africa, with distinct communities and languages. Khoikhoi names and knowledge shaped early European accounts of the river.
Orange-Senqu River Commission: An intergovernmental body coordinating management of the Orange-Senqu River basin among its member countries. It provides a framework for cooperation over the shared river system.
