Øresund

Øresund is the strait between Denmark and Sweden that connects the Baltic Sea with the Kattegat. It separates Zealand from Scania.

Zealand: The largest island of Denmark, home to Copenhagen and bordered by Øresund to the east. Its eastern coast forms the Danish side of Øresund.
Øresund Bridge: A combined road-and-rail link connecting Copenhagen and Malmö across Øresund. It carries road and rail traffic across the strait.
Treaty of Roskilde: The 1658 treaty that transferred Scania and other Danish territories to Sweden. It established Swedish control over Øresund's eastern shore.
Battle of Øresund: The 1658 naval battle in which a Dutch fleet defeated a Swedish fleet near Øresund. The battle broke Sweden's naval blockade of Copenhagen during the Dano-Swedish wars.
Scania: A province in southern Sweden, also known as Skåne. Its western shore faces Zealand across Øresund.
Ferry: A vessel that transports passengers, vehicles, or goods between shores. Ferries have long provided crossings between settlements on opposite shores.
Second Treaty of Brömsebro: The 1645 treaty in which Denmark ceded territories to Sweden during the Torstenson War. It preceded the final transfer of Scania across the strait.
Copenhagen: The capital of Denmark, located on the eastern coast of Zealand beside Øresund. Its harbor and strategic position made control of the strait central to Danish power.
Kattegat: A sea between Denmark and Sweden that connects the Baltic Sea with the North Sea through the Danish straits. Øresund opens northward into this sea.
Port of Copenhagen: Denmark's principal commercial port, located on the eastern coast of Zealand. Its harbor lies on Øresund and serves Baltic shipping.
