Othniel Charles Marsh

Othniel Charles Marsh (1831–1899) was an American paleontologist whose fossil discoveries and publications helped establish the study of North American dinosaurs.

Brontosaurus: A genus of long-necked sauropod dinosaurs named by Othniel Charles Marsh in 1879. Marsh named it from fossils found during the fierce competition over western dinosaur discoveries.
Edward Drinker Cope: An American paleontologist who described many fossil vertebrates and competed with Marsh. Their rivalry drove rapid fossil collecting and publication, alongside public disputes and scientific errors.
