Ottoman Egypt

Ottoman Egypt was the Ottoman Empire’s province centered on Egypt, formally governed by imperial institutions but often shaped by powerful local rulers and military households.

Ottoman conquest of Egypt: The 1517 campaign in which Selim I defeated the Mamluk sultanate and incorporated Egypt into the Ottoman Empire. The conquest established the province’s Ottoman framework while leaving many Mamluk elites in place.
