Pafnuty Chebyshev

Pafnuty Chebyshev (1821–1894) was a Russian mathematician whose work shaped number theory, probability, approximation theory, and the study of mechanisms.

Number theory: The branch of mathematics concerned with integers and their properties. Chebyshev’s results on prime numbers became landmarks in the study of integers.
Chebyshev's inequality: A bound on the probability that a random variable deviates far from its mean, given its variance. It converts limited information about a distribution into a general probability bound.
