Palestinian nationalism

A political movement and ideology asserting Palestinian national identity and self-determination, including the establishment or recognition of a Palestinian state.

British Mandate for Palestine: A League of Nations mandate under British administration from 1920 to 1948. British rule shaped early Palestinian political organization and the institutions governing the country.
Palestine Liberation Organization: An umbrella organization founded in 1964 to represent Palestinians and pursue national self-determination. The PLO became the principal institutional vehicle for Palestinian national representation.
Yasser Arafat: A Palestinian political leader who chaired the PLO from 1969 and led the Palestinian Authority from 1994. Arafat guided the PLO's shift from armed struggle toward negotiated diplomacy.
Two-state solution: A proposed settlement establishing independent Israeli and Palestinian states alongside one another. It is the most prominent diplomatic framework for realizing Palestinian statehood.
Balfour Declaration: A 1917 British statement supporting a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine while protecting existing non-Jewish communities' rights. Its support for a Jewish national home sharpened Palestinian opposition to British policy.
Fatah: A Palestinian political movement founded in the late 1950s and the largest faction in the PLO. Fatah's rise shifted the PLO toward Palestinian-led armed struggle and diplomacy.
George Habash: A Palestinian physician and political leader who founded the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Habash led a prominent leftist and revolutionary current within Palestinian nationalism.
One-state solution: A proposed political arrangement replacing Israel and the Palestinian territories with one state for Israelis and Palestinians. It offers an alternative to partition, with competing proposals for equal citizenship or national control.
1936–1939 Arab revolt in Palestine: A Palestinian uprising against British rule and Zionist immigration, suppressed by British forces. The revolt became a major early expression of Palestinian national demands.
First Intifada: A Palestinian mass uprising against Israeli occupation beginning in 1987. Popular resistance renewed national mobilization and helped lead to negotiations.
