Palk Strait

Palk Strait is a shallow body of water between southeastern India and northern Sri Lanka, linking the Bay of Bengal with the Gulf of Mannar.

Bay of Bengal: A northeastern arm of the Indian Ocean bordered by India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and the Malay Peninsula. The strait opens northward into this large bay.
Pamban Channel: A navigable channel between Rameswaram Island and mainland India. It is the principal passage from the strait toward the Gulf of Mannar.
