Pallava dynasty

The Pallava dynasty ruled parts of southern India from roughly the third to ninth centuries CE. Its rulers made Kanchipuram a major political and cultural center and sponsored distinctive rock-cut and structural temples.

Kanchipuram: A historic city in Tamil Nadu that served as a major capital and religious center. It became the Pallavas’ principal capital and a center of their court.
Pallava–Chalukya wars: A series of conflicts between the Pallavas and Chalukyas for control of southern India. These wars shaped Pallava fortunes and repeatedly brought rival armies into their core lands.
Pallava architecture: A South Indian architectural tradition developed under Pallava patronage, spanning rock-cut shrines and structural temples. Pallava monuments show the transition from excavated sanctuaries to freestanding stone temples.

Mahabalipuram: A coastal town in Tamil Nadu known for its Pallava-period monuments and rock-cut temples. Pallava rulers created an exceptional complex of monuments at this port.
Narasimhavarman I: A seventh-century Pallava king who defeated the Chalukyas and captured Vatapi. His victory over Pulakeshin II brought Pallava power to a high point.
Chola dynasty: A Tamil dynasty that became a major South Indian power after the Pallavas. Chola rulers inherited a transformed political landscape and temple tradition.
