Palm kernel oil

Palm kernel oil is a vegetable oil extracted from the seed, or kernel, of oil palm fruit. Its lauric-acid-rich composition differs from palm oil, which comes from the fruit’s fleshy pulp.

Oil palm: Oil palms are tropical plants whose fruits yield palm oil from their pulp and palm kernel oil from their seeds. The species produces the fruit tissues from which both palm oils are extracted.
Oil extraction: Oil extraction is the separation of fats or oils from oil-bearing biological material. It encompasses the processing steps used to obtain oil from palm kernels.
Confectionery: Confectionery comprises sweet foods such as chocolate, candies, and sugar-based products. Palm kernel oil fractions can provide fats used in confectionery coatings and fillings.

Palm oil production: Palm oil production is the cultivation and processing of oil palm fruit to obtain palm oil and related products. Kernel oil is one output of the broader oil-palm processing industry.
Lauric acid: Lauric acid is a saturated fatty acid with 12 carbon atoms, abundant in coconut oil and palm kernel oil. Its high proportion gives the oil its characteristic lauric composition.
Solvent extraction: Solvent extraction separates a desired substance from a solid or liquid mixture using a solvent. Oil processors can use solvents to recover residual oil from pressed kernel material.
