Papacy

The papacy is the office and institution of the pope, who leads the Roman Catholic Church. It combines spiritual authority, church governance, and a distinctive role in global diplomacy.

Pope: The bishop of Rome and head of the Roman Catholic Church. The pope occupies the office that gives the papacy its personal leadership.
Saint Peter: An apostle of Jesus whom Catholic tradition identifies as the first bishop of Rome. The papacy grounds its claim to Petrine succession in Peter’s Roman ministry.
