Lok Sabha : The directly elected lower house of India’s Parliament, whose members serve five-year terms unless it is dissolved earlier. Its elected majority determines who can form the Union government.

Union Budget of India : The Union government’s annual statement of estimated receipts and expenditure, presented to Parliament for approval. Parliament authorizes taxation and public spending through the budget process.
Indian Councils Act 1861 : A British statute that expanded legislative councils in India and introduced limited Indian participation in lawmaking. It marked an early step toward legislative institutions under colonial rule.
United States Congress : The bicameral federal legislature of the United States, consisting of the House of Representatives and the Senate. Unlike India’s parliamentary system, the US Congress operates under a separately elected president.
Rajya Sabha : India’s upper house, whose members are mostly elected by state legislatures and serve staggered six-year terms. It represents states and territories in national lawmaking.
Money Bill : A bill dealing only with specified financial matters, which can be introduced only in the Lok Sabha. The Rajya Sabha may recommend changes but cannot block a Money Bill.
Constitutional amendment in India : A change to the Constitution of India made through the special procedure set out in Article 368. Parliament can amend the Constitution, subject to procedural and substantive limits.
Government of India Act 1919 : A British statute that expanded Indian legislative councils and introduced dyarchy in provincial government. Its enlarged central legislature preceded later constitutional arrangements.
House of Lords : The unelected upper chamber of the United Kingdom’s Parliament, which reviews legislation and scrutinizes government. Its largely appointed membership differs from India’s indirectly elected Rajya Sabha.
