Participatory development

Participatory development involves affected communities in decisions and implementation. It aims to shape development initiatives around local priorities, knowledge, and capacities.

Participatory rural appraisal: A set of methods for communities to analyze local conditions and shape development plans. It gives communities practical tools to define needs and priorities.
Paulo Freire: A Brazilian educator whose work emphasized dialogue, critical consciousness, and collective action. His pedagogy influenced development approaches that treat people as agents rather than passive beneficiaries.
