Particle accelerator technology comprises machines and systems that accelerate charged particles and control their beams for research, medicine, industry, and other uses.

Radio-frequency cavity: A resonant structure that transfers energy to charged particles through oscillating electromagnetic fields. Its electric fields provide repeated energy gains as particles pass through accelerator sections.
Large Hadron Collider: A CERN circular accelerator that collides proton and heavy-ion beams at high energies. It exemplifies accelerator engineering at the frontier of particle physics.

Electromagnetic field: A physical field comprising electric and magnetic components that exert forces on electric charges. Electric fields add particle energy, while magnetic fields guide beam trajectories.
Fixed-field alternating-gradient accelerator: A circular accelerator that uses fixed magnetic fields with alternating-gradient focusing across a broad momentum range. It offers rapid acceleration without the synchronized magnet ramp of a synchrotron.
Ernest Lawrence: An American physicist who invented the cyclotron and advanced its development. The cyclotron established a compact circular approach to particle acceleration.
