Pathet Lao

The Pathet Lao was a communist-led Laotian political and military movement that fought in the Laotian Civil War and took power in 1975, establishing the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

Lao Issara: A Lao nationalist movement that opposed French restoration of colonial rule after World War II. It preceded the Pathet Lao in the struggle against French rule and helped shape Lao communist politics.
Souphanouvong: A Lao prince and communist leader who became the Pathet Lao's public figurehead and the first president of Laos. He represented the movement in coalition politics and later held the presidency after its victory.
Royal Lao Armed Forces: The military forces of the Kingdom of Laos, supported by the United States during the civil war. They were the principal state military opponent of Pathet Lao forces.
