Pectoralis major

The pectoralis major is a broad, fan-shaped muscle on the front of the chest. It moves the upper arm and helps stabilize the shoulder.

Clavicular head of pectoralis major: The upper portion of pectoralis major arising from the clavicle and inserting on the humerus. Its fibers particularly assist shoulder flexion and distinguish the upper part of the muscle.
Clavicle: The collarbone, a slender bone connecting the sternum to the shoulder blade. The clavicular head begins along its front surface.
Pectoralis major rupture: A tear of pectoralis major, often involving its tendon near the humerus. The injury can impair the pulling movements produced by this muscle.
Pectoralis minor: A small chest muscle deep to pectoralis major that connects the ribs to the shoulder blade. Unlike pectoralis major, it does not attach to the humerus or directly move the arm.
Sternocostal head of pectoralis major: The larger portion of pectoralis major arising from the sternum and upper costal cartilages. Its fibers contribute strongly to adduction and internal rotation of the arm.
Sternum: The flat bone at the center of the front chest, formed from the manubrium, body, and xiphoid process. The sternocostal head takes origin from the sternum.
Pectoralis major tendon repair: Surgical reattachment of a torn pectoralis major tendon to the humerus. Repair restores the muscle's force transmission to the arm.
Latissimus dorsi: A broad back muscle that extends, adducts, and medially rotates the upper arm. It produces overlapping arm actions from the opposite side of the trunk.
Humerus: The long bone of the upper arm, extending from the shoulder to the elbow. Pectoralis major inserts on the humerus and moves it at the shoulder.
Costal cartilage: Flexible cartilage connecting the front ends of most ribs to the sternum. Several upper costal cartilages provide attachment for the muscle.
