Peloponnese

A large peninsula in southern Greece, connected to mainland Greece by the Isthmus of Corinth and nearly separated from it by the Corinth Canal.

Isthmus of Corinth: A narrow strip of land connecting the Peloponnese to mainland Greece between the Gulf of Corinth and the Saronic Gulf. This land bridge forms the peninsula’s northern connection to mainland Greece.
Sparta: An ancient Greek city-state in Laconia, renowned for its military training and distinctive political system. It became the peninsula’s most powerful ancient land-based state.
Mycenaean Greece: A Late Bronze Age civilization centered on palace societies in mainland Greece, flourishing roughly from 1600 to 1100 BCE. Its palace culture shaped major early centers across the Peloponnese.

Aegean Sea: An arm of the Mediterranean Sea between Greece and Anatolia, dotted with islands. It borders the peninsula’s eastern and southeastern shores.
Mycenae: A Bronze Age citadel in Argolis that gave its name to the Mycenaean civilization. Its palace and tombs anchor the peninsula’s best-known Bronze Age archaeological landscape.
