Pentadecane

Pentadecane is a straight-chain alkane with the molecular formula C₁₅H₃₂. Its fifteen carbon atoms form an unbranched chain.

Alkane: A saturated hydrocarbon containing only carbon–carbon single bonds. Pentadecane belongs to this class and follows its general molecular formula.
London dispersion force: An intermolecular attraction arising from temporary fluctuations in electron distribution. These attractions between pentadecane molecules grow with its extended electron-rich chain.
Diesel fuel: A liquid fuel used in compression-ignition engines, composed mainly of petroleum-derived hydrocarbons. Pentadecane’s chain length lies within the range of hydrocarbons found in diesel fuels.
