Pentaerythritol

Pentaerythritol is a four-carbon polyol with four hydroxyl groups, usually written C(CH₂OH)₄. Its compact, highly functional structure makes it a building block for resins, coatings, lubricants, and other chemicals.

Esterification: A chemical reaction that forms an ester from an alcohol and an acid or acid derivative. Pentaerythritol’s four alcohol groups can each form ester bonds.
Powder coating: A coating process that applies dry polymer powder and cures it into a continuous film. Pentaerythritol-derived resins can contribute to cross-linkable coating formulations.

Pentaerythritol tetrastearate: A tetraester made from pentaerythritol and four stearic acid groups, used as a lubricant and processing aid. This specific ester illustrates how all four hydroxyl groups can be converted into lubricant-compatible chains.
Synthetic lubricant: A lubricant made from chemically synthesized base fluids rather than directly refined petroleum fractions. Pentaerythritol esters are used as synthetic base fluids in some lubricant applications.
