Pentecost

Pentecost is the event in Acts in which the Holy Spirit comes upon Jesus’ followers in Jerusalem, accompanied by wind, fire-like tongues, and speech in other languages.

Acts 2: The chapter of Acts that narrates the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. It gives the event’s fullest narrative, including the signs and Peter’s address.
Shavuot: The Jewish festival of Weeks, celebrated seven weeks after Passover and associated with the wheat harvest. Acts places the event during this festival in Jerusalem.
Apostles: The group of Jesus’ followers commissioned to bear witness to his teaching and resurrection. They are among the principal recipients of the Spirit in Acts’ account.
Pentecost Sunday: A Christian feast commemorating the descent of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus’ followers. The feast makes the Acts event a recurring focus of Christian worship.
Glossolalia: Speech in languages speakers have not learned, often associated with religious experience. Acts describes the disciples speaking as the Spirit enabled them.
