Knowra Peracetic acid Peracetic acid Peracetic acid, or peroxyacetic acid, is an organic peroxide with formula CH₃CO₃H. It is a strong oxidizer used as a disinfectant and sterilizing agent.
Oxidation : A chemical process in which a substance loses electrons or increases its oxidation state. Peracetic acid transfers oxygen to susceptible compounds, oxidizing microbial components and other materials.
Disinfection : The process of inactivating many or all pathogenic microorganisms on inanimate objects, excluding bacterial spores in some definitions. Peracetic acid is applied to equipment and surfaces to reduce viable microbial contamination.
Chlorine dioxide : A reactive chlorine oxide used as a disinfectant, bleaching agent, and industrial oxidizer. It offers a different oxidation-based disinfection chemistry and can leave chlorite and chlorate residues.
