Perlis

Perlis is Malaysia’s smallest state, occupying the country’s northwestern tip on the Malay Peninsula along the Thai border.

Kangar: Kangar is the capital and largest town of Perlis, Malaysia. The state capital concentrates Perlis’s administration and urban life.
Kedah Sultanate: The Kedah Sultanate is a Malay monarchy whose history extends across the northern Malay Peninsula. Perlis emerged as a distinct polity from territory historically associated with Kedah.
Padang Besar: Padang Besar is a town on the Malaysia–Thailand border, divided between Perlis and Thailand’s Songkhla province. Its rail and road links make it Perlis’s best-known international crossing.
Satun province: Satun is a province in southern Thailand bordering Perlis and Kedah. Its communities and crossings make it Perlis’s closest Thai provincial neighbor.
Arau: Arau is a town in Perlis and the seat of the Raja of Perlis. The royal seat is distinct from the state capital at Kangar.
Anglo-Siamese Treaty of 1909: The Anglo-Siamese Treaty of 1909 transferred Siam’s rights over several Malay states, including Perlis, to Britain. The treaty placed Perlis within the British sphere and reshaped its border relations.
Wang Kelian: Wang Kelian is a village and border crossing in northern Perlis, opposite Thailand’s Satun province. The crossing connects the state’s northern communities with southern Thailand.
Songkhla province: Songkhla is a province in southern Thailand that borders Perlis in the Padang Besar area. The divided town of Padang Besar connects Perlis directly with Songkhla.
Raja of Perlis: The Raja of Perlis is the hereditary ruler of the Malaysian state of Perlis. Perlis is Malaysia’s only state ruled by a Raja rather than a Sultan.
Unfederated Malay States: The Unfederated Malay States were five Malay states under British protection but outside the Federated Malay States. Perlis belonged to this grouping during British rule.
