Persian Cossack Brigade

The Persian Cossack Brigade was a Russian-officered military force in Qajar Iran, established in 1879 and used to defend the monarchy and enforce royal authority.

Qajar dynasty: The dynasty that ruled Iran from 1789 to 1925. The brigade was created as an armed instrument of Qajar royal authority.
Bombardment of the Majles: The 1908 shelling of Iran's parliament by forces loyal to Mohammad Ali Shah. Brigade commander Liakhov directed the attack that broke up the constitutionalist Majles.
Cossacks: Historically, communities and military formations associated with frontier regions of Eastern Europe and Eurasia. The brigade borrowed the Cossack name and mounted military image, though it was an Iranian force.
