Personality trait : A relatively enduring pattern of thought, emotion, or behavior that varies among individuals. Traits are the dimensions that typologies organize into broader patterns.
Dichotomous classification : A classification method that assigns cases to one of two mutually exclusive categories. Some typologies assign a type by placing each preference on one of two sides.
Myers–Briggs Type Indicator : A self-report personality questionnaire that assigns one of 16 types using four preference pairs. It is a widely known system that presents personality through named type categories.

HEXACO model of personality structure : A personality model with six dimensions, including honesty–humility alongside five domains resembling the Big Five. HEXACO offers a dimensional alternative with a distinct honesty–humility domain.
Psychometrics : The study of measuring psychological attributes, including the reliability and validity of tests. Type assignments depend on how psychological preferences are assessed.
Questionnaire : A structured set of questions used to collect information about people's experiences, attitudes, or characteristics. Many typologies infer categories from responses to standardized questions.
