Peter I Island

Peter I Island is an uninhabited volcanic island in the Bellingshausen Sea, claimed by Norway as a dependency. Its remote Antarctic location and ice-covered terrain make access difficult.

Fabian von Bellingshausen: Fabian von Bellingshausen was a Russian naval officer who led an Antarctic expedition from 1819 to 1821. He sighted Peter I Island during the expedition’s Antarctic voyage in 1821.

Bouvet Island: Bouvet Island is an uninhabited, volcanic Norwegian dependency in the South Atlantic Ocean. It shares Norway’s dependency status but lies far north of Peter I Island.
Norwegian Antarctic Expedition: The Norwegian Antarctic Expedition of 1929 explored parts of Antarctica under the leadership of Nils Larsen. Its ship, the Norvegia, reached and claimed the island for Norway.
Glacier: A glacier is a persistent mass of ice that deforms and flows under its own weight. Glaciers and ice cover most of Peter I Island’s rugged surface.
