Phalanx

A phalanx is one of the bones forming a finger or toe. Most digits have three phalanges; the thumb and great toe have two.

Hand: The body part at the end of the upper limb, containing the wrist, palm, and fingers. The fingers are formed partly by phalanges and connect them to the palm.
Proximal phalanx: The phalanx nearest the hand or foot in a digit. It forms the base segment of each finger or toe.
Finger fracture: A break in one or more bones of a finger. Many finger fractures involve a phalanx and can affect grip or joint motion.
Metacarpophalangeal joint: The joint between a metacarpal bone and the proximal phalanx of a finger. It borders the phalanx but is a joint, not a bone.
Foot: The body part at the end of the lower limb, supporting standing and locomotion. The toes contain phalanges that help the foot bear weight and move.
Middle phalanx: The phalanx between the proximal and distal phalanges of a digit. It is present in most digits but absent from the thumb and great toe.
Toe fracture: A break in one or more bones of a toe. Toe fractures commonly involve phalanges and may impair walking.
Carpal bone: One of eight small bones forming the wrist. Carpal bones sit proximal to the hand’s metacarpals and are not digit bones.
Metacarpal bone: One of five long bones forming the framework of the palm. Each finger’s proximal phalanx articulates with a metacarpal bone.
Distal phalanx: The terminal phalanx at the tip of a finger or toe. It supports the fingertip or toe tip beneath the nail.
