Philip II of France

Philip II, known as Philip Augustus, was king of France from 1180 to 1223. He expanded the royal domain and strengthened the French monarchy, especially through gains from the English crown.

Capetian dynasty: A French royal dynasty that ruled from 987 to 1328, including Philip II and his successors. Philip’s territorial gains strengthened the dynasty’s authority beyond its traditional lands.
