Knowra Phosphate Phosphate Phosphate is a phosphorus–oxygen chemical group found as the ion PO₄³⁻ and in compounds where phosphorus is bonded to oxygen. It is central to mineral formation, energy transfer, and the structure of nucleic acids.
Phosphorus : A chemical element with atomic number 15 that forms compounds with oxygen, hydrogen, and other elements. Phosphate’s central atom is phosphorus.
ATP : A nucleotide that cells use as a widely distributed carrier of chemical energy and phosphate groups. Its phosphate transfers drive many cellular reactions.
