Pierre Nkurunziza

Pierre Nkurunziza was a Burundian politician and former rebel leader who served as president of Burundi from 2005 until his death in 2020.

Burundian Civil War: An armed conflict in Burundi from 1993 to 2005, fought largely between the government and Hutu-led rebel groups. Nkurunziza led the CNDD-FDD during the conflict before entering postwar politics.
