Pinene

Pinene is a class of bicyclic monoterpene hydrocarbons found in conifer resins, chiefly as the isomers α-pinene and β-pinene.

Alpha-Pinene: A bicyclic monoterpene hydrocarbon and the most common pinene isomer in many conifer oils. Its double-bond position distinguishes it from β-pinene and shapes its reactions.
Terpene synthase: An enzyme that converts prenyl diphosphates into structurally diverse terpenes. Pinene synthases shape the precursor into the bicyclic pinene skeleton.
Turpentine: A volatile liquid mixture obtained by distilling resin from pine and other conifers. Pinene is a major component of many turpentine mixtures.
