Pipit

A pipit is a small, slender songbird in the wagtail family, usually with streaked plumage and a long hind claw. Most species forage on the ground in open habitats.

Motacillidae: The bird family that includes wagtails, pipits, and longclaws. Pipits belong to this family, whose members share slender bodies and long tails.
Meadow pipit: A widespread European and Asian pipit that breeds in open grassland and moorland. It is a familiar species whose ground-nesting habits typify many pipits.
Hind claw: The rear-facing claw on a bird’s foot, called the hallux claw. The pipit’s often elongated hind claw is a conspicuous field mark.
