Poaceae

Poaceae is the flowering-plant family commonly called the grass family. It includes cereals, bamboos, and turf grasses, distinguished by jointed stems and flowers adapted to wind pollination.

Spikelet: A compact grass inflorescence unit containing one or more florets enclosed by bracts. Spikelets are the basic units by which grass flowers and seed heads are organized.
Cereal: A grass cultivated for its edible grain. Wheat, rice, maize, and other cereals are domesticated members of Poaceae.
Grassland: An ecosystem in which grasses and other herbaceous plants dominate vegetation. Grasslands expanded alongside grass lineages adapted to open, frequently disturbed habitats.
