Poker hand rankings

Poker hand rankings order card combinations by strength, determining which hand wins at showdown. In standard high poker, the hierarchy runs from high card to royal flush.

Poker hand: A set of cards held or played by a player in a poker game. Rankings compare the five-card hands players can make.
High card: A five-card poker hand containing no pair, straight, or flush. It is the lowest category in the standard hierarchy.
Full house: A five-card poker hand containing three cards of one rank and a pair of another rank. It outranks a flush and is ranked first by its three of a kind.
Lowball poker: A poker format in which the lowest qualifying hand wins. Its hand values reverse or alter the standard high-hand hierarchy.
Poker: A family of card games in which players wager on hands and their relative strength. Hand rankings determine winners in many poker variants.
One pair: A five-card poker hand containing two cards of the same rank and three unmatched cards. It outranks high card but loses to two pair.
Four of a kind: A five-card poker hand containing four cards of the same rank and one unmatched card. It sits above a full house and below a straight flush.
Ace-to-five lowball: A lowball system that treats aces as low and ignores straights and flushes when ranking hands. It shows how a variant can discard categories used in standard high poker.
Standard 52-card deck: A deck of 52 playing cards divided into four suits, each containing thirteen ranks. Poker hands are formed from cards in this deck.
Two pair: A five-card poker hand containing two different pairs and one unmatched card. Its two pair ranks decide ties before the kicker.
