Polycarp

Polycarp was a second-century bishop of Smyrna and Christian martyr, traditionally regarded as a disciple of the apostle John. His life and death are central to early Christian accounts of apostolic succession and martyrdom.

Perpetua and Felicity: Two Christian women executed at Carthage in 203, whose prison account survives in an early martyr narrative. Their account offers a later comparison with the martyr ideal represented by Polycarp.
