Polysulfane

A compound containing a chain of three or more sulfur atoms, commonly represented as H₂Sₙ or as an organic group bonded to the chain. Its sulfur–sulfur bonds give it distinctive reactivity and often limited stability.

Hydrogen sulfide: A colorless, toxic gas with formula H₂S, consisting of one sulfur atom bonded to two hydrogen atoms. It is the one-sulfur hydride from which the H₂Sₙ formula extends.
Sulfur chain: A sequence of sulfur atoms connected by sulfur–sulfur bonds. Its length defines the central structural feature of a polysulfane.

Glutathione persulfide: A glutathione-derived sulfur species containing an additional sulfane sulfur atom. It illustrates how biological molecules carry reactive sulfur beyond a single sulfhydryl group.
Thiosulfoxide: A sulfur compound with a formally oxidized sulfur center bonded to another sulfur atom. It is a neighboring sulfur structure with bonding patterns unlike a simple polysulfane chain.
Sulfur: A chemical element with atomic number 16 that forms chains, rings, and many compounds. Sulfur’s ability to bond to itself makes extended chains possible.
