Pomare dynasty

The Pomare dynasty was Tahiti’s royal house, whose rulers unified the island and governed as French influence expanded in the nineteenth century.

Pōmare I: The Tahitian chief who founded the Pomare dynasty and became king of Tahiti. He built the power base that allowed the dynasty to unite Tahiti.
Unification of Tahiti: The process by which competing chiefly domains on Tahiti came under a single monarchy. Pomare power grew through the incorporation of rival Tahitian territories.
