Pony Express

The Pony Express was a mail service that carried letters by horseback relay between Missouri and California from 1860 to 1861. Its fast route depended on riders changing horses at stations along the way.

Pony Express route: The roughly 1,900-mile trail that connected St. Joseph, Missouri, with Sacramento, California. This route joined the stations and riders into a continuous east–west mail link.
William H. Russell: An American entrepreneur who co-founded the Central Overland California and Pikes Peak Express Company. Russell helped launch the company that operated the Pony Express.
